The “Blessed” Way?

Preacher:
Passage: Deuteronomy 27:11-26, Deuteronomy 28:1-10, Matthew 5:1-12
Service Type:

This Sunday we begin an all new series for the fall that will spill over into the New Year entitled The Way of Jesus. This teaching through the sermon on the mount is Jesus' manifesto on what it means to be his disciples in the world. We start with the "Beatitudes," a chain of blessings Jesus pours out on those who have a heart like his. This way of opening his teaching emphasizes what disciples must "be," even before he enters into what they should "do." What Jesus blesses us to be is supernaturally beautiful. What Jesus blesses us to be is radically different from what our world considers to be blessed, happy or successful.
